We love hearing your stories, seeing those photos stretching back through the decades and reaching right into 2022, the year we celebrate 60 years of the community that makes Stratton so special.
Did you drop down, feigning a binding check, on a black diamond trail before drawing the ring from your parka?
Were you among the first to marry at the Chapel of the Snows, aka the Chapel of Love. Perhaps your ceremony was on the summit deck with a champagne toast followed by a Stratton Mountain Club reception.
Maybe it was skiing and snowboarding that first brought you together and now here to Stratton.

One of our favorite stories from the 50th anniversary collection featured Rosemary and Peter Berman. Ski Patroller Peter was selling raffle tickets to support the Carlos Otis Clinic. Rosemary was serving drinks in the Bear’s Den. She bought a ticket and Peter won her heart.
Who traveled the farthest for love? It might have been Fiona McPhillips visiting New England all the way from Australia. Her stay at the Stratton Mountain Inn featured music by Pure and Simple with Andy Avery. One thing led to another … married at Stratton, home in Jamaica, Vt., and Fiona Avery’s long career at Stratton.
Alois and Adriane Lechner first crossed paths in 1970, with Alois at Ski School and Adriane working in Little Cub with Muriel Boutin. That summer she went to Austria as au pair for Louise and Hermann Herzog’s children, staying for 12 years instead of the planned three months. She returned to Stratton in 1982, moving to the Ski School Desk where she organized lessons, instructor schedules, the popular ski weeks … and “had a crush” on the Ski School Director; they would marry in 1992.
On their 20th and Stratton’s 50th anniversary, “We both raced in the dual slalom Sweetheart Race, but my racer husband caught an edge which resulted in a total yard sale and this mishap disqualified us,” Adriane recalls with a smile.
On the 50th, the longest married of those who had met on the mountain were Hubert and Wendy Schriebl, now celebrating 54 years. Wendy was on a college ski trip and her friend had a lesson with Hubert. Their group went to tea at the Birkenhaus where Hubert was showing slides from his recent Himalayan expedition. He invited Wendy to join him on the next morning’s “milk run.” From the chilly summit, they hiked out to the firetower; Hubert offered Wendy his expedition parka along the way. And the rest, as they say, is history.
